Hi-Tech clinic to Host Workshop
Shropshire’s Claremont Skin Clinic opened its doors just six months ago - and already has a major feather in its cap.
Despite its relative infancy, the Shrewsbury business has been selected to host a national aesthetics workshop hosted by Lumenis, the world leader in laser technology.
Noted speakers and experts will visit Shrewsbury to present seminars at this event on May 3.
“We are so delighted that they have picked us, considering we have only been here six months and they could have picked from the numerous clinics all over Britain, including the famous Harley Street Clinics,” says a delighted Sarah Jagger, Clinical Director at Claremont.
“It is really a huge honour and a big pat on the back for us - we must be doing something right.”
Highly trained aesthetics nurses Sarah and husband Dean are delighted that the dream of running their own business has finally been realised.
“The Clinic is better than we ever dreamt possible and the most important thing is that our clients seem to appreciate our service and effort, and our team enjoy coming to work.
Sarah believes that during the first few months the clinic has built a reputation offering a high standard of client care with affordable treatment plans.
The couple have expanded their skills by attending further training including a specialist laser course in Budapest. The clinic started by offering laser hair removal, intense pulsed light skin rejuvenation, dermal filler (line softening) injections, Botox (muscle relaxing) injections, medical micro-dermabraision, various depth chemical peels, Woods lamp skin analysis and specialist skin products and mineral make -up ranges.
It has introduced some new treatments and a new team member. As additional treatments they are now offering sclero therapy, a popular treatment where tiny injections are given into leg veins to reduce their appearance. This treatment has been around for many years and has proved highly successful.
Also beau visage is now available at the clinic- the latest in skin analysis imaging. Under consultation with a nurse, an in-depth report can be given to each client, showing the different types of damage to the skin from vascular (thread veins/rosacea) to melanin (pigmentation and sun damage).
Prescription
“This system is available in many London clinics, but has not been seen in this part of the country up until now. The report concludes by giving your skin an age depending on the level of damage and a prescription of curative treatments to reverse the skin age.
Repeat reports are carried out post treatment, showing the new improved skin age,” says Sarah.
Dr Catherine Griffiths BDC has joined the clinic’s specialist practitioner’s team at Claremont.
Claremont is now delighted to have Dr Catherine Griffiths BDS as part of its team of specialist practitioners. Catherine is well respected in Shrewsbury for both her general and cosmetic dentistry skills.
“Catherine has been performing injectable procedures like dermal filler and Botox for over 15 years within Shropshire and she is classed as an expert in her field.”
Charity Effort is more than Skin Deep
An exciting new clinic is hosting a special evening in aid of our appeal-giving people the opportunity to sample new treatments free of charge.
The Claremont Bank Skin Clinic in Shrewsbury opened in September but is having a Christmas launch night to support the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal.
Clinic owner Sarah Jagger said the centre had enjoyed great success since it opened and staff wanted to do something seasonal and raise money for a local charity.
She said the receptionist at the clinic, Angela Chambers is heavily involved with raising funds for the cancer centre charity and it seemed right to support it.
The launch on Thursday December 13th, will give people the chance to find out more about treatments such as Microdermabrasion which Sarah describes as “a very pleasant relaxing treatment, it’s very good for the skin.”
A team of beauticians will be giving full makeovers which are available in pre-bookable time slots.
Sarah said: We’ll be doing complementary treatments throughout the day from 2pm to 8pm but people will need a ticket for the event.
Husband and Wife open Specialist Skin Clinic
A husband and wife nursing team have opened a specialist skin clinic to help make the people of Shrewsbury look and feel good for the New year.
Dean and Sarah Jagger have set up Claremont Skin Clinic, which offers a huge range of treatments. These include the removal of unwanted hair and lines and wrinkles, treating the effects of sun damage, acne and thread vein treatment and providing anti aging techniques such as Botox and microdermabrasion.
Also new to 2008 at Claremont, which backs on to the Quarry Park, is the introduction of Dr Hugh Glover, who is offering acupuncture and private G.P work
Wide range
The couple, who are originally from Oxford and Staffordshire, are both aesthetic nurse practitioners who met while training at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury. They now live in Baschurch.
Sarah said “There is a big gap in the market in Shrewsbury where these kinds of treatments are not available. We offer a wide range of treatments to attract a cross section of clients, and we want everyone to feel welcome.”
The clinic has a large variety of specialist retail skincare and mineral make up which is not available on the high street.
Sarah added: “Dean and myself love what we do and love having our own clinic.”
Look a Treat
Husband and wife nursing team Dean and Sarah Jagger have launched a new skin clinic in Shrewsbury with a view to it becoming a centre of excellence. Sarah Dutton found out what they hope to achieve.
Dean and Sarah Jagger both nurses for the past 15 years met during their nursing training in Aylesbury at the famous Stoke Mandeville hospital, from their they went to work in Oxford, Sarah at both the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Churchill Hospital, specialising in chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments and Dean, worked within the renowned plastic surgery at the Radcliffe Infirmary.
“Both our careers were totally different within the nursing profession,” says Sarah, “But since we have become involved in the aesthetic nursing field we are both driven to keep learning more.”
The couple have embarked on an ambitious project, setting up the Claremont Skin Clinic, in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre. They have invested in the latest technologies in laser therapies and offer a range of non- surgical cosmetic procedures.
“Laser Technologies and skin treatments are advancing at such a pace it is a very exciting area of medicine to be in right now and we are both attending regular conferences and training events,” Sarah added.
“The trouble is that this training is generally only available in the cities. We have to travel to Nottingham, Birmingham and London to attend.
We are fortunate that as we have worked in the industry for the last seven years we know the field experts and we hope that the Claremont Skin Clinic can become a centre for learning too.
Dr Liz Raymond-Brown PhD, a key figure in laser applications and laser safety training is actively involved in the future development of Claremont Skin Clinic. She performs training all over the world and is on so many aesthetic advisory panels.
“We are honoured to have her input into our clinic; in the New Year she will be hosting training events at the clinic, putting both Claremont Skin Clinic and Shrewsbury firmly on the aesthetics map, establishing the clinic as an expert clinical training centre,” Sarah added.
Dean and Sarah, who have been married for nearly 10 years and have children aimee, three and Harry, two, have invested heavily into the clinic and can boast some firsts for the county.
Having both successfully attended their BTEC laser and Intense Pulsed Light Hair removal Qualification with Dr Raymond-Brown in Nottingham and their BTEC in Light Based Aesthetic Procedures they really are well qualified to offer these treatments to the county of Shropshire and beyond. They feature only one of the 10th fourth-generation laser machines in the country, and have also taken on further study into the skills of Dermal filler injections and Botulinum toxin type wrinkle relaxing injections.
They are the only SkinCeuticals supplier in Shropshire also, having attended the SkinCeuticals skin specialist training they are proficient in skin assessment and prescription, tailoring advanced antioxidant-based skin products to specific skin needs.
Lumenis OneĀ® arrives in Shropshire
Shrewsburys New Skin Clinic is proud to be offering Lumenis Ones treatments to the people of Shropshire . With only approximately 10 of these machines in the country, we feel very happy to be able to bring its numerous applications to Shropshire.
“Lumenis One is the most technologically advanced platform ever developed for aesthetic medicine-customisable with any combination of a growing number of world class technologies to meet the needs of your practice today and into the future.” Says Lumenis.
This system is clinically proven to be highly effective in the treatment of thread veins on the face and legs, pigmentation, sun damage, age spots, sun spots, Rosacea, Ruddy complexions and general skin lightening and brightening.
People travel all over the country to receive treatments from this machine so its wonderful to have one on the doorstep.
Claremont Skin Clinic in the Shropshire Star
A new private laser and skin clinic is to open in Shrewsbury next week which "aims to give the high class service of a Harley Street practice without the intimidating atmosphere and steep fees". Those are the words of Sarah Jagger who, with husband Dean, is launching Claremont Skin Clinic.
The couple, highly-trained aesthetic nurses, will run the business from 5 Claremont Buildings in Claremont Bank. The new business fits nicely into an area which has been something of a medical and dental quarter over the years.
Dean and Sarah will offer a halfway house between basic beauty treatments with creams and lotions and full-on plastic surgery. They believe they have identified a gap in the regional market for laser skin treatment, and hope to ride on the back of a national boom in "looking better" fostered by TV programmes like Ten Years Younger.
They also see their clinic becoming a training centre a regional centre of excellence in such techniques.
"People usually have to travel to London for these kind of clinics so we hope we are providing a service which is not readily available in Shropshire, Mid Wales and beyond," said Dean.
The business, which is registered with the Healthcare Commission, will be fully supported by expert doctors in the medical aesthetics field, thanks to a wide network of friends and colleagues which Dean and Sarah have built up over the years.
The clinic will offer an extensive range of treatments for conditions like skin problems, acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, unwanted hair, unsightly veins, pigment problems, sun damage and age spots. They will use the latest laser and intense pulsed light technologies.
Since a laser costs £100,000, it is fair to say the outlay involved in setting up the clinic has been considerable. Investment
"We have had some family investment which has helped to make it possible," said Sarah.
The couple met 12 years ago when they were both nurses working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire.
Dean, who had spent most of his life in the Plymouth and Oxford areas, was persuaded to move to Shropshire by Sarah, who hails from Brewood, on the Staffordshire/Shropshire border. "He was a little reluctant at first. I think he preferred Oxford, so I needed to find somewhere as beautiful, with the history, and Shrewsbury fitted the bill," she said with a smile. "I love it here," said Dean, who is a convert to village life in Baschurch where the couple live with their children, three-year-old Amy and Harry who is 20 months.
Here the couple have developed their careers with Dean working for the out-of-hours health service Shropdoc and Sarah picking up new skills working for the specialist health and beauty clinic at Boots in Shrewsbury.
"I became very interested in the marketing side, which will hopefully be useful now. I¹d have a stand at the Darwin Centre and I loved that side of it, getting involved with people," she said.
Dean admits that acquiring the skills to run a business is a "steep learning curve".
He explained: "As a nurse I'm very passionate about what I do and tend to wear my heart on my sleeve. I'd like to think that approach would work in business but I think, as a businessman you have to be a little more wary, particularly when dealing with people you don¹t know." A friend and former colleague of Sarah¹s from Boots, Christina Rich, who has been a dental nurse and reflexologist, will be joining Claremont Skin Clinic as a clinician. And Dean and Sarah believe they have recruited wisely for the vital roles at front of house. "Most people form their impressions of a practice from the reception they get on arrival and it is vital to have the right receptionist," said Dean.
The Jaggers have a three-year business plan to produce a flourishing practice.
Dean added: "I'm not driven by making a huge amount of money. I'd like to provide an expert service that helped people and gave us a good living."
